Advanced Nanomaterials Laboratory
Welcome to AdvNanoLab
Welcome to the homepage of Advanced Nanomaterials Laboratory led by Dr. Timur Sh. Atabaev at Nazarbayev University. Our research interests are mainly focused on the rational design and synthesis of functional nanostructures for optical, biomedical, energy, sensing, security, and photocatalytic applications.
Why Nano?
Science at the nanoscale is a crossroads of physics, chemistry, and biotech. Working at the nanoscale enables scientists to understand and utilize the unique properties of materials that occur at this scale.
What is Materials Chemistry
Materials Chemistry involves the use of chemistry for the design and synthesis of materials with interesting or potentially useful physical characteristics, such as magnetic, optical, structural or, catalytic properties

Size of the Nanoscale
-
One nanometer is about as long as your fingernail grows in one second
-
A sheet of paper is about 100,000 nanometers thick
-
On a comparative scale, if the diameter of a marble was one nanometer, then diameter of the Earth would be about one meter
