Advanced Nanomaterials Laboratory

Welcome to AdvNanoLab

Welcome to the homepage of Advanced Nanomaterials Laboratory led by Dr. Timur Sh. Atabaev at Nazarbayev University. Our research interests are mainly focused on the rational design and synthesis of functional nanostructures for optical, biomedical, energy, sensing, security, and photocatalytic applications.

Why Nano?

Science at the nanoscale is a crossroads of physics, chemistry, and biotechWorking at the nanoscale enables scientists to understand and utilize the unique  properties of materials that occur at this scale.

AdvNanoLab in numbers
  • Founded in 2017

  • 38 articles were published in peer-reviewed journals from NU

  • Members participated in more  than 50 conferences

  • The laboratory is equipped with analytical instruments and 14 research tools.

  • AdvNanoLab collaborated with researchers from 16 countries including South Korea, Ireland, France, and etc.

Size of the Nanoscale
  • One nanometer is about as long as your fingernail grows in one second

  • A sheet of paper is about 100,000 nanometers thick

  • On a comparative scale, if the diameter of a marble was one nanometer, then diameter of the Earth would be about one meter
